How to stop procrastinating and start achieving your bold goals

Updated: Oct 7

You’ve passed the last defender, you’re heading towards the goal, the crowd are on their feet, the adrenaline is pumping and your heart is racing, you’re sure you’re going to score…

UNTIL someone suddenly appears right in front of you and stops you dead in your tracks.

You are LIVID! Especially when you realise that someone is YOU!

Don’t get me wrong I’m no Beth Mead but the feeling of that ball hitting the back of the net is the same whether you’re playing for England or you’re an entrepreneur achieving your next bold goal.

I know you want to have that feeling the same as I do. Any ambitious entrepreneur is driven by achieving goals. But we can also be your own worst enemy too - do you ever feel like you’re getting in your own way? Read on!

3 Signs you’re getting in your own way

  1. You know that creating videos is the way forward and you have tonnes of ideas for reels, you’ve got several sitting in your drafts but you can’t quite bring yourself to post them.

  2. You’ve every intention of going to that networking event, but you cancel at the last minute because you absolutely hate it and will do anything to avoid it!

  3. You keep getting asked to come and speak to your local women in business and share your expertise but you keep saying no because you know you won’t be good enough.

If this sounds familiar you’re not on your own.

Why do we procrastinate?

There are several reasons why you’re not achieving the success you deserve and procrastination could well be one of them. If I had a pound for every client I’ve heard say that they haven’t had TIME to work on their goals- but I know from personal experience that’s rarely the real reason.

Procrastination is the thief of time. When you procrastinate, you find yourself busy doing ALL the little easy jobs that you enjoy doing (I call it faffing about!) and avoiding doing what you really need to do to move your business forward.

There are 2 reasons why you procrastinate: 1. lack of clarity in your goal and not knowing why it’s important, or 2. confidence - either not believing you can do it or not knowing how to do it.

How do you gain clarity and confidence?

There are 4 ways to gain clarity and confidence so you can start to be more productive and successful:

1. Have a clear vision and set bold goals

As your business grows you might find yourself start to lose focus and direction. It’s a bit like trying to drive to Scotland in the fog without a sat nav, you have to drive REALLY slowly! Consequently you feel frustrated that you’re not making progress. The solution to this is revisiting your vision and breaking it down into bold goals so you have clear milestones for motivation.

2. Learn how to do it

Lack of confidence often comes from lack of understanding. Luckily these days it’s easy to find out how to do something if you don’t know how. There are lots of ways to develop more knowledge. What works best for you? Can you read a book or do you prefer podcasts? YouTube is my best friend I’m addicted to TED Talks!

3. Get out of your comfort zone

OK this one is a tough pill to swallow. The absolute best way that I know to get over the dislike or discomfort of doing something is to start doing it! When I first started networking I used to sit in the car watching people going in and I had to really force myself to walk in the room never mind speak to people! Taking the first step is always the hardest but if you have a clear purpose taking action towards your goal is easier.

4. Seek help and support

This is one of the major benefits of being part of the right network. Everyone else is in the same boat! They can relate to what you’re going through and if you ask for help you’ll be encouraged every step of the way.

OR if you want to get there quicker, find a coach or mentor to guide you and hold you accountable for doing the difficult things you’re putting off.

Overcoming your fears

Which of these is most helpful? It was a bit of all 4 for me, which is why I can relate so strongly to you.

For years I held myself back from promoting my business because I was so scared of what people thought of me!

I overcame my fear by taking action and you can too!

What’s a goal you set yourself in January that you would like to achieve by the end of the year?

How can I help you to increase the sales for your business?

Imagine where you could be in 90 days if you started now and got out of your own way?

Ready for a challenge? I highly recommend my “Make a Bold Move in 90 Days Bootcamp” which will help you to overcome procrastination and start taking action to overcome your fears.
